Mission: To provide students of Sleeping Giant Sailing School the opportunity to captain and command sailboats for the purpose of enhancing and advancing sailing skills while working through the ISPA learning matrix.
Club Sail Superior in Thunder Bay membership is open to all peoples of all races and religions and all abilities with the following stipulations.
1. You have reached 16 years of age.
2. You have taken as a minimum Sleeping Giant Sailing School’s Basic Sailing course and have an ISPA log book and Competent Crew work book.
3. You have your PCOC operator’s card.
Within the Club Rules; unlimited access to the boats will be provided for members of Club Sail Superior from June 1st to September 30th.
Access keys to the boats will be limited to 15 per boat and after each ten members the Club will actively search out and purchase another boat so as to maintain ready access and high boat to member ratio.
The Fee Structure is as follows:
For new students: $3.00/day from the time of joining to the end of September.
After the first year students may sign up for one more full season at a fee of $360.00.+ 5%GST
Competent Crew Work Book & Log $35.00 + GST when purchasing with membership. PCOC test $20 with Club membership.
There will be no part season in the second year.
A refundable damage deposit of $250.00 will also be collected.
Second year members must pay their fees before May 1st or their spots may be given to other people on the waiting list.
Members going on to the next level of study in the ISPA program will be allowed to continue to pay Club membership for one more year after their year of study.
I.e. If you complete the Competent Crew course this year you may join and use the club boats for the rest of the season and again next season. If you decide to take the Day Skipper Course during your second season, you will be able to continue membership in the club for the (third) following season.
Students who have taken the Introduction to Sailing Course (Basic Sailing), or Young Mariners Summer Teen Camp and are 16 years of age or older and have purchased the Log Book and Competent Crew work book may join Club Sail to help them to gain sailing experience while they work towards their Competent Crew certification.
Members who have not completed the Competent Crew course are limited to areas of Lake Superior within the City of Thunder Bay breakwater.
Members who have completed the Competent Crew course, will be allowed to sail outside the breakwater from one entry point to the next within 200 meters of the break wall.

All persons must wear life jackets while on board with no exceptions. The skipper (member) is responsible to see that this rule is enforced for all guests. Maximum 4 persons on the craft at any one time. Instructor excluded.
Alcohol and Drugs are Strictly Forbidden!
Smoking is not allowed on board the vessels!
Before taking the boat out, insure that the equipment is all there and there is no damage to the boat before you leave the dock. If missing equipment or damage is found you must let the Club manager(s) know by phone so the problem can be corrected before you sail. No boat is to be taken out without all the proper equipment in good working order. If you do not report damage or missing equipment, you will be held responsible for any replacement or repair costs. These costs will be taken from your damage deposit.
After your scheduled sail the club member must clean the boat and report any missing and/or damaged equipment.
Damage due to normal wear and usage is expected and will not be the club member’s responsibility to repair.
Club Sail members may book one sailing session per season in advance as soon as dues are paid up. All other bookings are limited to one at a time and no more than 7 days ahead.
Each session will be four hours long and the boats must be back and clean 15 minutes before the next session. You must return even if a reservation was not scheduled for the next session. If upon your return no member has come to sail, you may then continue to sail into the next session. This is to allow all members to book last minute.
Sessions will be from,
Morning: a half hour after sunrise to 1130
Day: 1200 to 1630
Evening: 1700 to half hour before sunset.
During the later part of September sessions may be reduced to 3 hours due to diminishing daylight hours. The boat in all cases must be at the dock 1/2 hour before sunset.
Persons breaking any rules may forfeit their memberships with no refunds on user fees. Damage deposit will be refunded.

Cub Sail Superior in Thunder Bay provides boats so that our members have a way to develop their skills. We expect you to treat the boats and fellow members with respect. Those who don't will not remain members.
